BP CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIPS

Interested in a Masters degree or a Ph. D. ?

Here is a great opportunity for those interested to pursue graduate studies in the UK and need a scholarship to finance such an undertaking.

BP Egypt (previously British Petroleum Egypt) and the Cambridge Overseas Trust are offering up a number of scholarships to enable graduates of outstanding academic merit to pursue course of study or research at the University of Cambridge, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious universities. Enrollment is to start in October 2005.

The University of Cambridge has an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching (both at the undergraduate and graduate level) and research.  Almost 6,000 students pursue graduate studies, of whom about 1,500 are from overseas.

The scholarships are open to citizens of Egypt who already have a university degree from a recognized university.

The scholarships are available for the following tracks:

I. ONE YEAR POST GRADUATE STUDY

These scholarships are offered to pursue a one year postgraduate study program. The scholarships will cover the University Composition Fee, the college fees, a maintenance allowance sufficient for a single student and a contribution towards a return airfare. Successful candidates may be considered for further funding to enable them to pursue a program leading to completing a Ph.D. provided that their first year of study counts as part of the three years required to complete the Ph.D.

The maintenance allowance paid to those awarded the scholarship varies from year to year, for 2004-2005 it is around 7,800 Sterling Pounds (LE 90,000 at today’s exchange rate).

II. RESEARCH LEADING TO A PH.D.

Other scholarships are offered to pursue a course of research – of up to three years – leading to a Ph.D.

Decisions on awards will be taken during the summer months (June to August) prior to the October that the candidate intends to start their studies. A shortlist of eligible candidates will be drawn up and BP Egypt will interview these candidates in Egypt and select the BP Cambridge Scholars from those interviewed.
